Make your own 3 Tier Diaper Cake

Easy step by step instructions with pictures for making a Diaper Cake.

A diaper cake is a wonderfully creative gift for an expectant mother. It is a collection of diapers rolled and stacked together to resemble a traditional tiered cake. There can be 1, 2, 3 or more tiers. The tiers of the diaper cake can also be decorated with baby care items such as bibs, pacifiers, baby socks, bottles, toys, and more.

Things Required:
56 disposable size one diapers.
A large platter to hold the cake. I used the bottom of a cardboard box & covered it with heavy-duty aluminum foil.
56 one-foot length of yarn pieces or rubber bands to hold the rolled diapers.
6 large rubber bands to hold the tiers.
Approximately 8 feet of 1 Inch ribbon, to decorate the diaper cake, patterned to fit the baby shower theme. Pink, blue or yellow with polka dots are good choices.

One cardboard tube (stem) from a kitchen towel roll to build the cake. Cover with aluminum foil.
Assorted baby necessities such as pacifiers, teething rings, combs, brushes, rattles, bibs, etc if you wish.

Step 1: Roll the diapers.

Cut 56 pieces of one-foot length yarn. Decide whether you want the printed decoration on the diaper to show on the cake. If you do, roll each diaper from the fold outwards, keeping the decoration on the outside. If not, roll with the decoration on the inside.

Tie each rolled diaper with a yarn piece or a rubber band. Roll all the 56 diapers

Step 2 : Make Tier 1

Then place about 6 diapers around the cardboard stem and put a large rubber band around the entire ring of diapers

Next, form a 2nd ring with the remaining 12 diapers by placing them around the 1st ring of diapers. Complete it by placing a large rubberband around the 2nd ring.

Next, form a 3rd ring with the remaining 18 diapers by placing them around the 1st ring of diapers. Complete it by placing a large rubberband around the 3rd ring.

All right! you have made the 1st tier.

Step 3: The second tier is made much the same way, only instead of 3 rings, you will only make 2 rings of diapers. Just like the 1st tier, the inside ring will need about 5 diapers. Place the 5 diapers around the stem to form the 1st ring of the 2nd tier. The 2nd ring will need 12 diapers. Hold both the tiers with large rubber bands.

Step 4: Third tier is easy!

Part of the paper towel stem will be sticking out of the 2nd tier, so place your 5 diapers around it to form the 1st ring of the 3rd tier.

Step 5 : Decorate with Ribbon !

Now take a large, 1/2 to 1 inch wide ribbon and tie it around each of the tiers to hold them all together in a circle shape. All right! Here is what it should look like:

Step 6 : Final Finishes.

Place a flower bunch in the paper towel stem and use double sided sticky tape to stick the diaper cake to the platter.

Add little baby items like Pacifiers, bottles, lotion, bibs, receiving blankets, miniature stuffed animals, baby towel, onesie, wash cloths, baby hygiene products, toys, etc. Place them between the folds of the diaper, tuck the larger items into the outer layer of ribbon.Add stickers and decorations to match the baby shower theme.

And Voila! You're done and it's a masterpiece!
